SEO – Backlinks
Backlinks are links on other websites that point back to a website. They are an effective way to improve rankings on desired keywords.
Search Engines determine popularity and relevance based on how many website backlinks exist. The Search Engines figure that if enough websites point to a particular website, the website must be relevant and important.
Backlinks can be referred to as:
- Incoming links
- Inlinks
- Inbound links
- Inward links
A sample of a backlink would be if someone placed the following link on another website –> Software as a Service.
There are a number of factors that search engines use when evaluating backlinks. The most important factor is the actual title of the backlink. In the example above, “Software as a Service” is the title. The title bears importance for the keyword that describes the page that is being linked. The other factors include:
- Number of backlinks on the website
- Number of backlinks to the website
- Page Ranking of the websites that contain the backlinks
